Focused on Success 30 Day Challenge – Reflections, Everyday Babywearing Challenge – Day 7

The “Focused on Success” challenge has ended. I’ll take my measurements tomorrow, but I’m not too worried about what they say. The challenge has helped me to be more aware of my food choices, water intake, and activity level. It has also encouraged me to make better choices when eating, stay on top of hydration, and to be more intentionally active. It was a good experience. I hope to continue being aware of these things going forward.

What helps you stick to good habits you’re trying to instill into daily life?

I wore Baby C in a short cross carry with ring finish most of the day. While I was out today I met and ended up waiting with a woman who has a baby just a couple of weeks older than Baby C. She didn’t have him wrapped, but she seemed familiar with the concept because she told her baby, “Doesn’t he look snuggly in his wrap?” We were both working on solving a problem so didn’t get to chat, but the babies were having fun together. It was cute. Her baby is in about the third percentile, and my chunk is around the eighty-fifth percentile, so there was a huge size difference. Her mother was there and apparently owns a bed and breakfast in the same town that Hubby and I met in. I can’t remember the name, so I’ll have to try searching for it and see if it jumps out at me.

I was moderately active today, but wouldn’t call it exercise. I ate somewhat well. We had a delayed start to the day, so breakfast was really brunch. I had a diner salad and fries. A little bit later I had the leftover pizza. Dinner was Indian food with friends. I had the last of my coconut ice cream for desert. I drank around four bottles today.

What do you like to eat with friends?

I wore Baby C in a strap carry for a short nap this morning. While we were visiting friends I wore him in a short cross carry with a slip knot. One of the friends was actually familiar with the practice of South American baby wearing in woven wraps.

Who wants to get me a genuine woven wrap?

Focused on Success 30 Day Challenge – Day 32, Everyday Babywearing Challenge – Day 5

I was visiting for most of today, but still ate relatively well. Breakfast was my usual. Lunch was diner fries and such. Dinner was an awesome fresh salad, quinoa, zucchini, beet salad, and fresh fruit from a friend’s CSA share. Part two of dinner was pizza. Desert was coconut ice cream. A snack was an avocado. I was moderately active today, but didn’t do any outright exercises. I only drank about three bottles of water.

Do you participate in community supported agriculture?

As for baby wearing.. My wrap stayed in my bag today. He napped while we drove, and people we visited held him most of the day. It felt weird to not get my snuggles.

What things do you miss if you don’t do them everyday?

Despite being on the road today, I did alright with food. Breakfast was a variety of fresh fruit and pumpkin seeds. Lunch was a salad and French fries. Dinner was lentil tacos. I didn’t exercise, but drank around five bottles.

Are you able to forgive yourself for relaxing about food while on the road? The key is to make it an exception, and not let it totally derail your efforts.

I was in the car most of the day, so really only carried Baby C a little bit. Since he was napping in the car we didn’t have any wrap naps, and we stuck to short cross carry with a ring finish. It isn’t exciting, but works well!

Does anyone else feel naked when they don’t have baby in their arms or a carrier?

Focused on Success 30 Day Challenge – Day 29, Everyday Babywearing Challenge – Day 2

Breakfast today was a handful of granola before heading out the door. Lunch was an iceberg lettuce salad, pumpkin seeds, and skittles. Dinner was a Subway salad and Wendy’s fries. I didn’t do my stretches but did a good amount of walking. I managed to drink about four bottles worth, and since most of my food was mostly water I’m good there.

We were touring a property and had a casual meeting, so I wore Baby C in short cross carry with a ring finish again. It helped keep him secure while riding a side by side as well.

Focused on Success 30 Day Challenge – Day 28, Everyday Babywearing Challenge – Day 1

Today I agree a lot of processed food, including some with ingredients I’m sensitive to. I found a commercially available bagel that I can eat. It’s not the same, but isn’t bad. It’s made by “omgrusureitsglutenfree.” Lunch was carrot dogs, marinated mushrooms, potato salad, fruit salad, veggie salad, and strawberry shortcake. Dinner sort of blended into lunch since it was a family gathering. I didn’t exercise, but I think I drank enough water.

Am I the only one that ends up at gatherings that are all afternoon buffets?

Today was the first day of the #onlyneedone baby carrier challenge, hosted by the Everyday Babywearing group on Facebook. I’ve committed to using a DIY woven wrap (hemmed osnaburg fabric that it about 27″ x 135″.) It works for a few carries, though I’m not comfortable with more than a couple. Today we used the short cross carry with ring finish. I also showed the same to our cousin, and may be helping her get one to use for her toddler. I used a medium aluminum sling ring from slingrings.com

Focused on Success 30 Day Challenge – Day 27

It’s hard to believe that this challenge is almost over. Monday I’ll be starting a different challenge that I may post about. It’s hosted by the Facebook group “Everyday Babywearing.” It’s a challenge to use only one baby carrier for a week. It’s to show how accessible it is to wear your baby. Anyway, my report for today is mediocre. Breakfast was a fruit smoothie, walnuts and pumpkin seeds. Lunch was vegetable mei (mai?) fun. White processed rice noodles. Dinner was lentil tacos. I walked a good amount today, but didn’t do my stretches. I had about 4 bottles of water. My feet really don’t like crocs for extensive walking, even when I wear socks.

Today was crazy and I ended up skipping breakfast. I had a early much of veggies, hummus, and organic corn chips. Snack was grapes. Dinner was veggie sushi. I walked a lot today (I didn’t time or measure, but enough that my feet are sore! I didn’t do my stretches, but I’ve had six bottles of water today.

Do you track how much you walk? If so, do you measure steps, time, or distance?

Today was busy, but I stayed on track. I did my stretches and time on the health walker first thing when I woke up. I’ve had more than five bottles of water. Breakfast was gluten free oatmeal with ground flax seed, dried fruit, and brown sugar. Lunch was a “use it up” salad of veggies that had been in the fridge and needed to be used before going bad. Dinner was falafel and sweet potato puffs. That was a weird combination. I’m pleased with today despite hodge podge meals.

Plans to visit family have me distracted, so some choices haven’t been so great. It’s actually sort of self sabotage since I could be doing well now, but when we travel it’ll be harder to stay on track. Part of it is that I’m trying to get as much paid work done as I can during the day, since when we are traveling I won’t be being paid. Breakfast was oatmeal with dried fruit and brown sugar. Lunch was lentil soup and organic cotton tortilla chips. Dinner was baked potato wedges, pickle wedges, an avocado, and grapes. Snacks were pumpkin seeds and skittles. I did my stretches but didn’t end up walking. I drank about five bottles of water.

How do you keep yourself on track when preparing for a trip or while traveling?
